News Body

Google has officially launched a new feature called “Temporary Chat” in its Gemini app, offering users a more private and ephemeral way to interact with its AI assistant. The rollout is now live across Android, iOS, and web platforms.

The new mode, marked by a dashed message bubble icon in the side panel, allows users to initiate chats that won’t appear in their Recent Chats or Gemini App Activity. According to Google, these conversations are not used to train AI models or personalize future responses. Instead, they are stored temporarily for up to 72 hours to ensure safe and responsive interactions.
Once a Temporary Chat session ends, users lose access to the conversation history, making it ideal for one-off queries or sensitive topics. However, the feature comes with limitations: users cannot use Gems, access connected apps and services, receive personalized responses, save information for future use, or submit feedback on responses.

This privacy-forward feature is currently available only to personal account holders, excluding work and school profiles. It reflects Google’s ongoing efforts to give users more control over their data while maintaining the utility of its AI-powered assistant.
